Talk about a pitiful situation. Four beautiful elephants, Goldie, Sylvie, Ruby and Pearl thought they had been rescued from a life of oppressive service in the circus, when all of a sudden they’re headed back. Over 25,000 petitioners say, “Oh, no you don’t!” Will you join them?

The elephants in question were confiscated from an Indian circus by the a rescue team from Wildlife SOS in coordination with PETA and the Indian government. The plan was to retire these elephants at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Care Center, also in India, where they would be rehabilitated with medical care, a healthy diet and the companionship of other elephants.

After decades of being shackled and forced to perform, this would be a dream come true for these elephants. Sadly, it might be just that… a dream. A court unexpectedly ordered that the elephants be taken from the rescue center and returned to the circus based on some technicality involved in the confiscation operation.

Wildlife SOS and elephant lovers worldwide aren’t sitting still for this. A petition has been created on Change.org to implore the ministers and other officials in the Indian government to step in and take action to protect the freedom of the “Precious Four,” as they are now known. Over 25,000 signatures out of a goal of 35,000 have already been entered into the online petition. They’re asking for your help, too, and quickly. If your heart is tugged by this story, as mine is, learn more and also add your name and comments to the petition now.
